Welcome
Welcome to the website of Scrabble Hill Farm, a unique, local-but-yet-"international" adventure in growing food and farming.
If you live in the United States, near Washington, D.C., please click here to go to the Welcome page for Limestone Mountain Farm.
Scrabble Hill Farm is located in Great Village, Nova Scotia, up what the locals call "Scrabble Hill Road." It is a little patch (<2/3 acre!) of growing ground, NOP (USDA) certified by OCIA in 2008.
With such a small acreage, the focus here is on growing small quantities of vegetables, grain, herbs, and raising a few chickens for eggs and frying chicken, or to sell as "started pullets" to others who want chickens but don't want to begin at Day 1.
This year (2009), Scrabble Hill Farm was the site of a Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) venture. As the end of 2009 approaches and 2010 begins, decisions will be made on enterprise options.
Right now, the Group of Seven (the six hens and one rooster remaining from the 40 begun at day 1 in June) have settled in for the winter and have begun to lay delicious eggs...Black Australorp rooster, two cross-breds, one Black Australorp hen, three Rhode Island Red hens...it's an interesting group!
